Episode 14 (Spoonin’ For Big Bill)

Well it’s done.  Episode 14 is finally finished and I couldn’t be more happy with the way that it turned out.  It was a great trip with Rusty Pritchard & Tommy Vaughn they are some awesome guys who will put you on some fish!  I think it was a nice change for them because our show is a little bit different than traditional outdoor shows that they are used to.  Tommy & Rusty were really able to be themselves and it made for an awesome episode!  The tale of Big Bill is an epic one.  This episode is filled with laughs, storytelling, and Chadwick Nelson hammering some big Spoonbill!  Enjoy!

Swimbaits Catch Big Fish..It’s Simple

Swimbaits catch big fish.  You’ve heard it before, I’ve heard it before, everyone has.  I didn’t used to believe it until I actually started throwing them.  It’s amazing how if you actually commit to a lure and throw it you might actually catch some fish on it.  It’s true, swimbaits do tend to catch a bigger average size of Bass than other lures do.  If you are patient and continue to have confidence in it; it can really produce some big, big fish for you.  I just started making my own swimbaits with a former teacher of mine and our swimbaits work great.  We have about 3 different designs and I have caught a 7+ pounder, a 6, a couple 4 1/2 and even smaller fish.  IMG_5946

The thing is, big Bass don’t like wasting their time and energy on a meal that can’t in turn give them the energy they need.  So when you see guys in California catching GIANT bass on trout swimbaits and things like that…it’s normal.  Big bass eat big baits.  Sounds simple because it is.  Swimbaits are designed to be as natural as possible.  They are made to imitate a large bass, trout, or shad and draw the larger bass out and get them to feed.  It is a fun way to fish because when you get a bite they HAMMER it!  Give the swimbait a try, no not just one cast.  Actually throw it a lot and you will be amazed at the GOOD fish you bring in!

Spoonbill Day on Ft. Gibson

Well on May 5th we went down to Ft. Gibson lake and filmed our Spoonbill episode with Rusty Pritchard Guide Service.  We had been pumped for this episode for awhile now so it was awesome to finally get on the water and start fishing!  We put in at Mazie Landing and headed out to our first spot!  Stinger, Chadwick and I were all pumped to get to snaggin’!  Before Tommy Vaughn the deckhand on the boat could show me the technique ol’ Chadwick Nelson was hooked up to a Spoonbill.  Little did we know that this would be the theme of the day.  Chadwick was on em all day long!  He caught 6 spoonbill on the day while Stinger caught 1 and I caught..well….NONE.  I kept saying throughout the whole episode that “I’ll catch one”.  Well it didn’t happen, but that’s the way fishing goes sometimes!  I just wanted to film an awesome episode and Rusty & Tommy were great for our show!  They really got to be themselves and it was awesome to see.  Chadwick had a great time reeling in big spoonbill after big spoonbill; it was great seeing him having a great time.  All in all, it was an awesome trip with an awesome crew.  If you are ever looking for a great guide service to put you on blue cats, or spoonbill then check out Pritchard’s Guide Service.

Who knows, you may end up hooking “Big Bill”…..
